Wheelie bins delivered to an Adelaide home

I run Adelaide Wheelie Bins out of Adelaide. We hire out wheelie bins, not skips. If you have got rubbish to shift and you are inside the metro, this is the page that explains how it works, what it costs, and whether it suits the job you have in front of you.

A wheelie bin rolls down the side of the house on its own wheels and sits flat against the wall. It fits through a standard side gate (roughly 80cm clear), it does not sit on the road, and it does not need a council permit. You book online, the bin turns up in 1 to 3 days, you load it across the week, then the truck comes back and takes it away. No phone tag, no quote forms for a basic hire.

The four services we run

We do four things. Pick the one that matches your job and skip the rest.

1. 7 day wheelie bin hire

The bread and butter. A 360L, 660L or 1100L bin dropped at your place for a week. Flat price, GST included, delivery and pickup included. No hidden weight charge, no surprise day-rate.

  • 360L: $99. Roughly 1 to 1.5 trailer loads, about 0.5 cubic metres.
  • 660L: $129. Roughly 2 to 3 trailer loads, about 1 cubic metre.
  • 1100L: $179. Roughly 4 to 5 trailer loads, about 1.5 cubic metres.

Need it longer than 7 days? Extra days are $5 per bin per day. Full breakdown on the 7 day hire page or check prices.

2. Event bin hire

Colour-coded bins for markets, festivals, weddings, school fetes and private functions. Quoted per job because every event is different. We work out bin counts based on expected attendees, the food and drink setup, and how long the event runs. Details on the event hire page.

3. Builders bin hire

On-call collection or exchange bins for trades and small builders. $99 per collection or $149 per exchange. Light construction waste only: timber, plasterboard, packaging, carpet, fixtures. No bricks, concrete, soil or rubble (we are a truck-and-bin operation, not a heavy-waste skip yard). See builders bin hire.

4. High-rise and office strip-out

One-off project bins for CBD towers and office fitouts. We handle dock bookings and goods-lift access. Quoted per job. Strip-outs are the one where wheelie genuinely beats a skip: you cannot get a 4-cube skip into a 9th-floor lift, but a 1100L bin rolls straight in. High-rise and office bins.

Wheelie versus skip: the actual difference

A skip is a big metal box that gets craned off a truck and sits where it lands. If that is your front yard, fine. If your front yard is busy or narrow, the skip goes on the verge or the road, and that means a council permit. Permits cost $30 to $100 and take a few business days depending on the council.

A wheelie bin sits on your property. No permit. It rolls, so it goes wherever you want it: down the side, around the back, up a driveway. It is also lower, so loading is easier on your back and you can dump a wheelbarrow straight in. The trade-off is volume. A small 2-cube skip holds more than even a 1100L wheelie, so if your job is genuinely big (full house clearout, heavy demo) a skip might suit you better. For most home jobs the 1100L is plenty.

Where we deliver

Adelaide metro only, which is 285 suburbs by our last count. The boundary is roughly:

  • North: stops at Salisbury. Gawler and Munno Para are outside the run.
  • South: stops at Hove and Seaview Downs. Sellicks, Aldinga and the south coast are outside.
  • East: up to the foot of the hills. Crafers and beyond are outside.
  • West: out to the coast, no issue.

Full suburb list and a map on the service areas page. If you are unsure, type your address into the booking page and it will tell you on the spot.

What can and cannot go in

Fine in the bin: general household waste, packaging, broken furniture, kids toys, clothes, timber offcuts, plasterboard, carpet, light fitout material, garden bagged-up rubbish, whitegoods (within reason on weight).

Not in the bin, no exceptions: asbestos, paint or any liquid, soil or fill, bricks, concrete, rubble, oil, batteries, gas bottles, tyres, hot ashes, hazardous waste. If you are unsure, ring before you load it. Cleaning a contaminated load out costs everyone money.

A longer list with worked examples is on the what can go in a hire bin post.

Booking to collection: the process

Same process for every 7 day hire, no calls needed unless you want to chat first.

  1. Book online. Go to /book, put in your address, pick a bin size and a delivery date. Pay by card. Takes about 2 minutes.
  2. Delivery, 1 to 3 days. Most bookings go out same week. The driver leaves the bin where you have told us (side path, driveway, back yard). No one has to be home.
  3. Fill it over the week. Load it whenever suits. Lid down is best (keeps the weather out and the magpies disappointed).
  4. Collection on day 7. Truck comes back, hooks the bin, gone. You do not have to do anything.

Need it longer? Reply to the confirmation email or call us before collection day and we will tack on extra days at $5 per day. Full FAQ on the FAQ page.

Does this suit your job

Wheelie bin hire is the right call when:

  • The job is a long weekend, a clean-out or a small reno (not a full demo).
  • You do not want to spend a Saturday at the Wingfield tip queue.
  • You want it gone in a week, not 6 weeks (council hard waste).
  • You do not want to organise a permit for a skip on the verge.
  • You have got nowhere to crane a skip in but a wheelie will fit through the gate.

Not sure which size? Have a look at the size guide or read the full cost breakdown. If you are trying to work out the cheapest way overall, the cheapest rubbish removal guide walks through the options.
